This morning, we completed a successful extraction of these innocent souls from Kharkiv to a safer location where they can then be moved forward and prepare for their new lives outside of Ukraine, where the bombs are literally landing on their doorsteps. There was shelling around us actively, and they were located in the most dangerous part of Kharkiv where the Russians were shelling daily. Only 600 metres away, the area is completely cordoned off and no one can go in or out because the Russians dropped cluster mine munitions, killing several people and making the densely populated area uninhabitable from the mines. These dogs were featured in The Guardian, and the family had been begging for several weeks to get these dogs out. But no one would come because of the location and the danger of getting to it. The original article appears here: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/apr/18/kharkiv-family-races-to-get-six-newborn-puppies-out-of-ukraine We had multiple folks reach out asking if we could help, and that the family could not evacuate with them, and couldn't keep them because the puppies were growing. After hearing that everyone else refused to go help them we immediately said we would, despite Jon leaving out early and taking one of the vehicles. This left just Tab and myself with the ambu-van as its coming to be called. Prior to getting the pups out we had to scramble for supplies, risk assessments were made, routes in and out were scouted, and secondary routes in and out were planned for contingency factors. Kharkiv does not have air raid sirens, so the bombs just fall from the skies and people know when the impacts start landing on our around them, like we had near to us today. We could not have done this and had the successful outcome if it wasn't for some dedicated folks who helped us make this rescue possible. And for that we say THANK YOU!!! For security reasons, we are not going to publicly name them. If they want to step up and take a bow, they are more than welcome to. Thank you all again for supporting what we do, and helping to make what we do possible. Without all of you, we would not be able to do this. We will be back in Kharkiv and other heavily impacted areas very soon to continue our work. We hope you'll continue to come along with us for the journey We are K9 Global Rescue and this is what we do. www.k9globalrescue.org #WeStandWithUkraine
